INA, with the help of domestic partner Končar, intends to build two modern solar power plants. The power plants will together produce 16,000 MWh of electricity per year, which is the average consumption of 4,800 households in the Republic of Croatia, ie households in cities the size of Makarska or Jastrebarsko.
The Virje solar power plant will be located in the area of INA’s Molve gas processing facilities and is currently the largest solar power plant under construction in Croatia. The solar power plant in Sisak will be built on an industrial location in Sisak and is one of the projects to transform the location into a modern industrial center.
At the signing of the contract, Sándor Fasimon, President of the Management Board of INA, emphasized: “These projects are another step in the process of transforming INA into an energy company and are in line with our development guidelines. Our goal is to upgrade the existing value chain, and these solar power plants are the beginning of creating a sustainable portfolio in the production of electricity from renewable sources. In addition, by implementing these projects, INA will contribute to security of supply, as well as to meeting the climate goals that the Republic of Croatia has taken over from the European Union. ”
The latest technological solutions will be used in the construction of solar power plants. KONČAR is in charge of their implementation. “We are extremely pleased that KONČAR won the contract for the construction of two photovoltaic power plants in strong international competition from bidders. Končar’s equipment will be installed in all substations, and our PROZA NET platform will be used as the backbone of the plant’s digitalization. With this agreement, KONČAR strengthens its position as a leading regional company in the field of construction and revitalization of plants for the production of electricity from renewable sources, and with our solutions, experience and expertise we continue to lead the energy transition and contribute to the decarbonisation of Croatia’s electricity sector.
The expected start of work on the construction of solar power plants Virje and Sisak is in the spring of 2022. After completion and commissioning, no later than 2023, the produced electricity INA will deliver to the public electricity distribution network.
