The French Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, Corinne Meunier, and her husband, Philippe Meunier, hosted a reception held in Zagreb on the occasion of the celebration of the French national holiday. Numerous guests from various areas attended the reception. The European, Croatian and French anthem sang the capella choir of the 18th Grammar School in Zagreb.
In his speech, Ms. Meunier recalled that on July 14, the opportunity for the celebration of the values of the French Republic, which is particularly valuable in today’s world, shaken by crises and deep changes. She also stressed the need for renewing Europe and democratic vitality in the EU, and mentioned the importance of co-operation between France and its friendly and partner countries on youth, civil society and climate – the environment.
The Ambassador welcomed the friendship between France and Croatia, countries that have a lot in common: the richness of the Mediterranean, gastronomy, sport, love for art and culture, and much more. In this regard, he reminded of several important bilateral events this year, including the opening of the Zagreb Airport, attended by Minister Harlem Désir, visit to MEDEF Croatia, as well as fruitful discussions between the great French intellectuals: Cédric Villani, Jeano Tirole and Patricka Boucheron With the Croatian public. The French-Croatian co-operation aims to further strengthen the future of Croatia’s EU presidency in 2020, as well as the preparations for Rijeka’s European Capital of Culture, in 2020 as well.
