Mercedes is recalling 7,358 vehicles of the EQB electric SUV in the United States. The reason is a possible short circuit in the battery cells, which can lead to a fire. The affected models are manufactured between December 2021 and January 2023.

Danger of short circuit
According to the American safety agency NHTSA, a short circuit can occur in the battery cells. If this happens while driving, a warning will appear on the dashboard.
The solution is a software update for battery management, but it’s not available yet. Until then, Mercedes recommends that the battery not be charged above 80 percent. The recall will begin on April 1, 2025.
According to the NHTSA press release, the recall in the US covers the following models:
EQB 250 – 2,636 vehicles
EQB 300 4Matic – 3,311 vehicles
EQB 350 4Matic – 1,415 vehicles
Upon inquiry by the magazine “Auto Motor und Sport”, Mercedes confirmed that vehicles in Europe could also be affected, but did not specify the exact figures. Owners will be informed in due time.
