Marking the 68th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and freedom fight of the 23rd of October in 1956, the Hungarian Embassy in Zagreb hosted a reception for a wide range of guests of the Croatian diplomatic corps, representatives of the Croatian political, cultural and economic community at the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery in Zagreb.
This year’s national day commemoration also marked the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the 180th anniversary of the birth of Mihály Munkácsy, internally renowned Hungarian painter and pioneer in genre art.
On that occasion a joint Hungarian-Croatian exhibition – „Ideal and Reality: The first Golden Age of Hungarian painting and the beginnings of Croatian modern art” – was officially opened by Croatian Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek and Róbert Zsigó, Deputy-Minister of the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation. The unique exhibition features a selection of the most significant Hungarian artworks of the late 19th century along with the masterpieces of the representatives of Croatian modernism.”
